Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers

Altar servers assist the priest in the Sacred Liturgy. Since even low Masses require an altar server, we are in need of more people, especially those who attend daily Mass, to be trained to assist the priest.

Extraordinary Ministers

Lay people who are appointed to help the priest with timely and reverent distribution of the Eucharist are called “extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion.”   If you are in full communion with the Church and have a reverence for the Eucharist, you can become an extraordinary minister.

Greeters/Ushers

Greeters are often the first face a new person meets, welcoming parishioners to Mass and distributing bulletins and flyers, with the ability to answer questions about parish activities. Ushers also assist with the seating, the collection, providing direction for the gift bearers and tidying the pews after Mass.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim God’s word at Mass with the readings and the Prayers of the Faithful. Lectors study their assigned scripture passages so they can successfully communicate their meaning with clarity and conviction.

Parish Choir

Founded in 1983, the St. Paul Parish Choir has served the liturgy and proclaimed the Gospel in song at the 9:30 Sunday Mass for more than thirty years. The choir is comprised of approximately 35 volunteer singers from the parish and the Harvard Square community, specializing in the finest liturgical music composed throughout the history of the Church. The choir’s repertoire includes everything from Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony to inspirational music by romantic and contemporary composers. In addition to singing at Mass, the choir sings a service of Advent lessons and carols, a Solemn Vespers for Epiphany in combination with the Choir of St. Paul’s, Harvard Square, and an annual Spring concert of liturgical works.

The Parish Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 and on Sunday mornings at 8:30. New singers are always welcome to join. Contact Dr. Jonathan Wessler at jwessler@choirschool.net to arrange an informal audition.
